Becoming a referee.

How to become a referee within VYSA

To referee within VYSA, you must be currently registered with BC Soccer as a referee, having completed either the Small Sided or Entry Level referee clinic.

Refereeing games at the U13–U18 level

If you have taken the Entry Level clinic and are currently a Youth, District, or higher-classified referee interested in officiating at the U13–U18 level within the VYSA, please get in touch with the Referee-in-Chief, Bradley Smith.

Refereeing games at the U12 and below level

If you have taken the Small Sided clinic and are currently a Small Sided-classified referee interested in officiating at the U12 and below level within the VYSA, these assignments are handled by the individual member clubs. Please get in touch with your local club, or email the Referee-in-Chief for assistance.

Taking a referee clinic

If you have not taken either clinic in the past, you must register for and complete one in order to referee. The Small Sided clinic is available for referees 12 years or older, and certifies you to work the small sided game (age divisions U12 and below on the smaller field size). The Entry Level clinic is available for individuals 14 years or older, and certifies you to work the full sided game (age divisions U13 and up—including adult—on the regular, full-size field).
