Part 5: 1986-2010

March 17, 1986

  • VYSA hold the first casino dates for fund-raising.
  • New VYSA Constitution approved and incorporation with the Society Act on March 19, 1986, thanks to Lyle Woodley.
  • Approval of artificial turf at Eric Hamber School.

April 20, 1986 (&May 7) Annual General Meeting

  • Peter Scholfield resigns from the Board as he has moved.
  • Donna Dancey stepping down from the Board. Don resigns from the position of Scheduler. Don and Donna Dancey presented with a silver tray for their 7 years on the board.
  • New Ruling: that Metro team players must reside in the district they play for.
  • Motion to include Div.6 in the Metro program.
  • Chair: Ron Rothwell, Vice-Chair: Don Dancey, Secretary: Jackie Larson, Treasurer: Rod Jamieson, Van City FC Gen. Mgr: Heinz Heckl, Directors: Geoff Herring & Don MacLean.
  • Paul Eberhardt to be Referee-in-Chief.
  • Motion to purchase a computer for the position of Secretary.

February 2008

  • A facilitated meeting was followed by a Special General Meeting
  • motion passed that VYSA will go from a “Youth District Registering Boys” to a “Youth District Registering Boys and Girls.”

2009-2010

  • The Vancouver Youth Select (boys-VYSSA) became a society in 1991. From the mid-70’s the Selects was run by the District. The VYSSA disbanded at the end of the 08/09 season and amalgamated with the Vancouver girls’ teams that play in the Girls’ Metro Soccer League (GMSL) and became known as the Vancouver FC.

January 2011 - High Performance Premier League

  • district-represented committee meetings were followed by a January 22 ‘11 BCSA Special General Meeting where the membership accepted a new High Performance League (HPL)
  • BC Soccer in partnership with the Whitecaps FC. Vancouver/Richmond was chosen as one of the eight founding BC Soccer Premier League franchises. The Vancouver/Richmond Committee members, chaired by Karen Thompson, were David Haber, Jason Jordan, Tom Madden, Steve Kindel, Karen MacDonald, Steve Weston and Doug Long. Samir Gandesha, Bernie Poznanski, Tracie Galbraith, Gordon Johnson, Pat Banks, Marc Bowley and Ed Soltysik were also involved in gathering necessary background information.
  • The Metro-Select league will field Division two teams.
